Difficulty: Considered easy to moderate, the trail features a steady incline with optional light rock scrambling near the final stretch.
Best Time to Visit: Late spring through fall is ideal; snow may linger into May, and the trail is a great escape from the intense summer heat.
Trail Experience:
The route winds through scenic stands of pinyon pine, ponderosa pine, and mountain mahogany, often tracing a seasonal creek bed. The hike culminates in a dramatic, narrow limestone canyon—frequently described as a “slot”—where temperatures are noticeably cooler than the surrounding desert landscape. While the trail is clearly marked at the start, it can become more difficult to follow as you approach the steeper, rockier upper section.
Tips for Hiking:
The Fletcher Canyon Trailhead parking lot is located on the left just past the intersection with Route 158. Spaces fill up quickly—especially on weekends—so arriving early is recommended.
