Named after a Southern Paiute outlaw known as “Little Mouse,” who used the area as a hideout in the 1890s, the trail leads to a natural rock basin that collects rainwater, known as Mouse’s Tank. The hike is relatively easy, with a gentle incline and well-marked path, making it suitable for all ages and skill levels. One of the highlights of the trail is the abundance of ancient petroglyphs etched into the canyon walls, some of which are estimated to be thousands of years old. These fascinating rock carvings offer a glimpse into the area’s prehistoric cultures and add a historical dimension to the natural surroundings. The vibrant red sandstone and dramatic rock formations along the trail provide a picturesque backdrop, especially during the early morning or late afternoon when the light enhances the colors of the landscape.
